I Love You

“I love you, Tiffany.”

There is something extra special about hearing my husband say my name. Don’t get me wrong, I love hearing “I love you” at any time, in any form, but when he says it with my name attached it just means something more to me.

I know that he is talking specifically to me. He is acknowledging me and our special relationship in a different way. He is singling me out from everyone else in the world.

Having someone know your name and use it is powerful. Being on a first name basis with someone means you are closer to them than someone who you simply know as Mr. or Mrs. So-n-so. It especially means that you are closer than those acquaintances who you see occasionally and may speak to but never have learned their name. Knowing someone’s name shows closeness. It is personal and lets someone know that you recognize them for them, apart from the rest of the world.

The wonderful thing to realize is that God knows your name. The all-powerful Lord and Creator of the universe knows my name. He knows and loves all His children and calls them personally by name.  How amazing is this?

“But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob,
And He who formed you, O Israel:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name;
You are Mine.” Isaiah 43:1

Sometimes we get lost in the idea of God’s love. We think of how He loves the whole world and forget that He also loves the individual.

“For God so loved the world that He gave
His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in
Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16

But the truth is God knows your name. He knows you personally, better than anyone on this earth ever will. David understood this and Psalm 139 is a beautiful chapter where David recognized how intimately God knows each of His children. Not only that, but He spends time thinking of you! Thinking of me!

“How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!
How great is the sum of them!
If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand.”
Psalm 139:17-18a

If God knows your name and thinks of you so often that the thoughts cannot be numbered, shouldn’t that same attention be returned? Being in a relationship with the Father should be two way: two-way thoughts, two-way communication, two-way love.

He knows you. He loves you! He wants you to be His child and wear the name of His Son and share in His inheritance. That is an amazing love! That is the kind of love we owe Him. We each need to know Him. To spend time in His word listening to Him, learning about Him and all He has done, all He is and all He wants us to be.

May you be encouraged to really think about God’s love for you today. May you realize how much He loves you. He calls you by name and desires to be in a relationship with you. He wants to bless you! May you be blessed today!

“The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.” ’
“So they shall put My name on the children of Israel,
and I will bless them.”
Numbers 6:24-27
